Landermere is managed by Michael Welham and Jim McNair, Landermere is a 1500-acre farm based on the outskirts of Thorpe le Soken. The good soil at Landermere farm lends itself to growing potatoes and this is the main operation of Landermere. Michael regularly grows over 1500 tonnes every year, supplying potatoes nationwide for supermarkets, as well as for foreign exports. In order to optimise the markets Michael grows a range of varieties to supply both the second early and early main crop market. Landermere’s range of crops also includes wheat, oilseed rape and sugar beet.
Landermere provides buildings for local businesses which capitalises on the farms resources and keeps business within the local community which helps support the local economy.
Forty acres of Landermere farm is dedicated to grassland which helps encourage the biodiversity of the farm, and the reservoir, which helps with the demand of water needed to grow potatoes, has been developed to include a ‘wet area’ which creates a great habitat for wetland birds. Michael also, opens the reservoir to local anglers.
